“You’re a storyteller. Dream up something wild and improbable," she pleaded. "Something beautiful and full of monsters."

“Beautiful and full of monsters?"

“All the best stories are.”

State of the World

Werewolf takes place in the modern world, with all its corruption and defilement currently foaming on the surface. In the United States, white supremacists march openly in the streets, children are killing each other in their schools, and immigrant children are being ripped from their parents’ arms to disappear into the void. In Canada, Native youths are being killed regularly, including thousands of missing and murdered Indigenous women. Meanwhile, nine months after Hurricane Maria parts of Puerto Rico are still without power, and for Gaia’s sake, why isn’t anyone talking about Syria?

As Gaia’s warriors continue to fall, the Wyrm cycles the world ever closer to Apocalypse

Real World Darkened

Although Werewolf takes place in the setting of the “real” world, it also takes place in the World of Darkness. Cities that claim to be progressive, who enact laws to protect the environment or people or grant access to healthcare, food, shelter, still have many politicians in the pockets of fossil fuel tycoons, still serve the interests of those who would mine the earth barren or relegate women to the home to carry and raise unwanted babies. Anything good is tenuous. Every place approaching utopic has a not-so-secret seedy underbelly. Greed and corruption are everywhere just beneath the surface, is in some places breaking through. The bad things -- driven to corruption, to extreme chaos, to ordered madness -- are winning.

Primary antagonists will be determined by individual Storytellers for their individual places, or combined if they decide to actively encourage crossover. However, there is also the chance of bleed-over. A city plagued by the Weaver may see Black Spiral Dancers. A remote area tending to the Wyld may see Pentex creations. And so on.

Canon Septs/Caerns

I’m sure there are many canon septs and Caerns to build a Werewolf venue around. Storytellers should feel free to invent a sept or Caern if they wish, or park a venue on something established if they want. Or they can pull something straight out of the books, whichever works best for them.
