Character Creation

Please make sure to go over the Judgment Calls and Kinfolk Judgment Calls pages before submitting a character for approval. Due to the potential for crossover, Werewolf character creation will be similar in a lot of ways to what’s described for Mage, with adjustments for Werewolf/Kinfolk characters. Werewolf will not allow for the creation of Mortal characters within the system, however, they may crossover from other games.


Home Base

The "Home Base" field on the Werewolf and Kinfolk character sheets is for keeping track of the primary setting in which a character is being played. This field doesn't mean characters are locked into that setting, it's just so that the Admin can keep track of who's where in case a setting has a total PC restriction, or other limitations on what kind of characters can go where.

Changing Home Base

If for whatever reason a player decides to move a character's home base, there are two ways to let the Admin know.

  • If the move/transition happens IC, include it in your XP Journal

  • If it's a player decision (e.g. you were playing the character globally and decided to settle them in somewhere, or vice versa), shoot an email to the Werewolf Admin (skylar [at] wodaeon [dot] com). 

Nature and Demeanor

Players are free to use Natures and Demeanors from any edition of any oWoD game, provided it is appropriate for a Garou or Kinfolk.

Attributes and Abilities

  • No ability may be raised above 3 without spending freebies.
  • No attribute or ability may begin at 5.
  • High-level Attributes and Abilities must fit the character concept and backstory.

Tempers

At creation, Garou tempers will be capped based on the initial rating and their rank.

  • Gnosis: A Cub is capped at +2 to their initial Gnosis rating, a Cliath at +4, and a Fostern +5.
  • Rage: A Cub is capped at +1 to their initial Rage rating, a Cliath at +2, and a Fostern at +3 (Remember, Rage has an affect on mortals. Garou with Rage over 6 will find it increasingly difficult to move about in public unnoticed.).
  • Willpower: A Cub is capped at +2 to their initial WP rating, a Cliath at +3, and a Fostern at +4.
    • Kinfolk WP is capped at 5 for Lost Kinfolk, and 8 for a standard Kinfolk character.

Ranks

As of this point in time, the character ranks allowed at creation in the Werewolf system are: Kinfolk, Cub, Cliath, Fostern, and up to Rank 2 for Fera.

Breed/Tribe

Check the Venue information for where you are looking to play for any restrictions on breed or tribe. This also applies to lupus Kinfolk.

Camps and Kinfolk Fellowships

Characters will be allowed membership into camps and Kinfolk fellowships on a case-by-case basis. Any player wanting to create a character belonging to a certain camp or fellowship should pitch their concept to the Administrator first.

Level Caps

Anything in these Character Creation rules with a level cap can be purchased at higher levels with Player XP.

Freebies

Listed freebies are the maximum amount which can be allocated to the character. You are always welcome to take less, if a smaller number is more appropriate.


Standard Garou/Kinfolk

  • Attributes: 7/5/3
  • Abilities: 13/9/5
  • Backgrounds: 7
  • Renown: See renown chart on page 246 of the core rulebook. No character can begin above Fostern.
  • Rage/Gnosis: By Auspice/Breed. See above for caps.
  • WP: By Tribe (including Kinfolk). See above for caps.
  • Freebies: 50

Gifts

1 each for Tribe/Breed/Auspice, and up to 2 more per Rank. A Cliath may start with +2 level 1 Gifts, a Fostern with up to +3 level 1 Gifts and up to +3 level 2 Gifts for a maximum of 7 total Gifts before spending freebies or XP.

No character may start with a gift outside of their Tribe/Breed/Auspice, unless purchased with XP.

  • Kinfolk Gifts: None allowed at creation, unless purchased with XP. See Kinfolk Judgment Calls for Kinfolk Gift restrictions.

Backgrounds 

See Judgment Calls for rulings on specific Backgrounds.

Fetishes: Level 4 and 5 fetishes require ST permission at approval. These can also be gained in play.


Cub/Lost Kinfolk

  • Attributes: 6/4/3
  • Abilities: 11/7/4
  • Backgrounds: 5
  • Renown: Up to 2 points, or 20 temporary points, distributed based on Auspice.
  • Rage/Gnosis: By Auspice/Breed. See above for caps.
    • Gnosis for Kinfolk: None allowed at creation.
  • WP: By Tribe (including Kinfolk). See above for caps.
    • Unless the player chooses a Tribal lineage, Lost Kinfolk begin with 3 WP
  • Freebies (Age 18-29): 21
  • Freebies (Age 30+): 35

Gifts

None allowed at creation.

  • Kinfolk Gifts: None allowed at creation.

Backgrounds

See Judgment Calls for rulings on specific Backgrounds.

Fetishes: Not allowed to Cubs or Lost Kinfolk at creation.


Fera

  • Attributes: 7/5/3
  • Abilities: 13/9/5
  • Backgrounds: 7
  • Renown/Rage/Gnosis/WP: See Fera Character Creation Charts. No character can begin above Rank 2.
    • See above for caps.
  • Freebies: 50

Gifts

1 each for Fera Breed/Breed/Aspect, and up to 2 more per Rank. A Rank 1 character may start with +2 level 1 Gifts, a Rank 2 with up to +3 level 1 Gifts and up to +3 level 2 Gifts for a maximum of 7 total Gifts before spending freebies or XP.

No character may start with a gift outside of their Tribe/Breed/Auspice, unless purchased with XP.


Advanced Characters

There is no standard build for advanced characters in this system. Rather, if you wish to submit a character with more advanced stats, you may purchase them with saved experience, just as you would do normally. (This experience comes from your personal XP bank. Not from other characters.) Please note that freebies must be spent before experience when creating these characters.

  • Abilities: 2 per dot
  • Backgrounds: 1 per dot
  • Gifts: 7 per Level 1 Gift, 10 per Level 2, 13 per Level 3
  • Rage: 1 per dot
